Hello, my name is Sakina Syed and I am a double award winning Dental Hygienist and Dental Therapist with a wealth of experience working in private practice.

I graduated from Queen Mary & Westfield University of London in 2008 with a dual  Diploma in BSc Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy with already achieved a  BSc (hons) degree in Human Biology from King's College London.

Prior to my Dental career, I was a Retail Bank Manager where I learnt many transferable skills which I utilise alongside my clinical skills in dentistry, making me very business savvy in daily practice operations.

Since qualifying I have worked in private practice and working in a large private multidisciplinary team. Communication and relationship building are the key element for every appointment and as such I am extremely sought after for appointments and am continuously referred to by patients and colleagues.

I also contribute regularly within my community and have built a strong affiliation with a primary school in Tower hamlets where I provide oral hygiene advice to both children and parents.

In November 2022 I won the Best Dental Hygienist at the Private Dentistry Awards In London and 3 weeks later won the  Dental Hygienist of the Year at The Dentistry Awards.  These are both two highly sought after awards which are a testament to my hard work, dedication and superior level of patient care.

I actively take part in presenting and speaking at in house continuous professional development CPD talks at my practice both to my dental hygiene & therapy colleagues and the wider dental team. Within my profession I have been a thought leader and have published articles giving a professional opinion of oral hygiene methods from a dental hygienist perspective.

I have particularly developed a passion for motivational speaking and motivating the dental team to achieve professional goals and help improve the patient journey from booking an appointment through to treatment complete. As well as being a Professional wellness coach for the Bupa foundation on a volunteer basis, providing support to teachers and charitable organisations.

I am currently the Regional Representative and Acting Chair for the The British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy, London Region where I represent members and organise study events.

I am passionate about training and education and keen to open dialogue with new connections and am available to participate in new projects.   I can help the dental team develop and improve communication between patient and staff as well as specifically focus on the commercial side;  dental practice growth when purchasing new equipment and introducing new services, combining my business mind and clinical approach.
